Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum

Visit the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum on Sanibel Island, which features 30 permanent exhibits, record-breaking shells, history, culture, art, and more. Named for two pioneer island families, The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum showcases why Sanibel has earned its reputation as one of the worlds top shelling destinations.

The Sanibel Island Shell Museum is the most comprehensive museum in the nation devoted exclusively to shells. It features exhibits illustrating shells from geographical, historical, scientific and artistic perspectives. The museum has been operating for over 20 years and highlights shells from around the globe, as well as the cultural, historical, and culinary facets of them.
