706 Emeril Home -Just a ten minute walk to the beach, this home is very comfortable and nicely decorated. The pool is well sized and in summer is in the sun for most of the day. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are a good size. This was a recommendation by Lorraine Lorenzo after our regular rental became unavailable. Dates Aug 1 - Aug 31 20016
Lovely house, but not as it seems.
Left on Jun 2, 2017 for a stay in May 2017
706 Emeril Court is a lovely house, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there, but the description is misleading. Nowhere does it suggest that the house is actually on two floors and that the twin bedroom is downstairs, far away from the master bedroom in particular, so that if we'd planned to have children in there it would have been really impractical, especially since doors out to the unfenced pool are on that level. In fact, the house has four bedroom, although it may be that it's only licensed for three- I don't know. Two are downstairs. The lower level is set out as a suite, with very comfortable sofas and a tv. There's also a dining table and chairs and a desk down there, along with a shower room. My daughter, son in law and baby came to join us for two weeks, and as they wanted the baby to have his own room, they weren't able to sleep on the same level as us, which actually turned out well as it's so far removed from the rest of the house downstairs, that we never heard him cry in the night. Not the best though, if you had small children down there. It is gloomy in the lower level but as they used it only at night, that didn't matter and we were very vigilant with the doors to the pool, as the baby is now walking. The house is beautifully and tastefully decorated and is very comfortable, with two seating areas and large kitchen with granite worktops, and a large fridge with filtered water and ice on tap. It's all open plan. The two upstairs bedrooms, a queen or British king size, and a king, or British super king, are on opposite sides of the house. Both are very nice, the master having a huge ensuite with jacuzzi bath, large shower and walk in wardrobe. There were no instructions on anything but the TVs when we arrived. We had a slight problem getting the oven to work, we eventually got a booklet from VIP two days before we left with helpful phone numbers and local interests, but nothing specific to the house. We had a couple of problems - outside steps came loose and BBQ flamed but both were put right quickly. We had a monumental problem when on using the oven, which we did very infrequently, fumes from the oven set off the smoke alarm. As is common, ceilings are not full height so fumes easily could reach the sensors which are just outside the kitchen. As there were no instructions whatsoever on the alarms, we had no idea how to stop it, as the problem was so slight, and eventually by pressing every button we managed to stop it but not before Sanibel Fire Brigade arrived, sirens shrieking! They were very understanding, and very nice and we learned later that it wasn't the first time this has happened in this house. VIP sent the alarm installer along and he said he would move the sensor as it was too close, but never did, but he did leave instructions on how to override the system, which is now in easy sight, The pool was cold when we first arrived but when we asked the pool big about it he found the heating was off. When put right the pool was a gorgeous 92 degrees! The lake has quite a few alligators, one very large, who frequently sunbathed on the bank just yards away. We thought it was amazing and were a bit disappointed that we couldn't see into the lake more, due to a thick hedge round the pool area, but there were birds, and we saw an iguana. The poinciana tree next to the house was bare when we arrived and frequented by woodpeckers, but while there it burst into full bloom first, then into leaf and was just beautiful. The house is unlike any other we have rented in Florida over the years in that it has a rather 'hotel' feel. Usually we've felt that the owners have moved out and left the house for us, but this one has little evidence of the family, in that all drawers and cupboards are empty, no odds and ends of detergent, tea, coffee etc left by prior clients, nothing in fact. It may be that the owners haven't used it much, and there were a few locked cupboards but for such a large house we felt 9 place setting including mugs, and just six placemats, was a bit strange, in comparison with prior rentals. When we had friends over for a BBQ, we had to buy plastic plates, and there are few serving dishes too. We loved our stay and it worked for us but the layout is unusual. We would probably stay again but the beach us a 12 minute walk, which sounds ok but in 95 degrees is quite a distance with children. There is a cart of sorts but it doesn't hold a lot. The house doesn't cater for children at all. So any equipment has to be hired, which works out very expensive. I suspect that pool inflatables have been left by renters and not the owners. There is an abundance of towels, but only one change of bedding, and no beach or pool towels at all. The laundry room is great though with a 20 minute wash cycle! A lovely home, but not quite as described.
