The Sanibel Causeway toll booths continue to be unmanned. What does this mean to you as a visitor to Sanibel & Captiva Islands? Tolls can be paid using a compatible prepaid transponder or through the pay-by-plate system. When you pass through the Sanibel Causeway toll plaza, there is no need to stop to pay your toll. If the system detects a compatible transponder, your prepaid account will be billed. If the system does not detect a transponder on your vehicle, a bill will be mailed to you using the pay-by-plate technology.

It is important to note that starting on 10/1/21 there will be a $3.00 surcharge on top of the $6.00 toll for pay-by-plate. If you are in a rental car we encourage you to check to see what their billing process is and if they offer a transponder rental program. This will help save you money, depending on the # of trips you plan to make onto the island during your stay.
